Background

Peter Guarnieri is an Associate in the Washington, DC, office of Fish & Richardson. His practice focuses on patent litigation in Federal District Courts and Section 337 proceedings before the International Trade Commission. Mr. Guarnieri also has experience advising clients on and litigating inter partes review proceedings at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, including representation of both petitioners and patent owners.  His practice has covered a broad range of technologies for clients, including complex software applications, 3D graphics accelerators, portable audio docks, in-ear headphones, digital cameras, medical devices, and photonic integrated circuits.  Mr. Guarnieri’s litigation experience includes argument and taking witnesses at trial; deposing numerous fact and expert witnesses; all aspects of discovery and motions practice; and formulation of claim construction and litigation strategies.  Recent notable representations include membership in a trial team that secured a $28.9 million jury verdict for their client in a patent case involving hybrid car technology in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.

Mr. Guarnieri received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was on the Executive Board of the American Criminal Law Review. He received his B.A. in Computer Science from Duke University.

Mr. Guarnieri was previously a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Raymond C. Clevenger, III at the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (2015-2016).  Prior to joining Fish & Richardson, Mr. Guarnieri was a Senior Consultant with Appian Corporation in Northern Virginia, developing complex enterprise software for a number of public and private clients, including work on the U.S. Army’s Army Knowledge Online portal, and an internal procurement system for Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Mr. Guarnieri lives with his wife and two children in Alexandria, VA.
