Fish & Richardson announced today that principal Teresa A. Lavoie, Ph.D. has been named a recipient of the 2015 “Women Worth Watching” award by Profiles in Diversity Journal in recognition of her passion and positive influence inside and outside the workplace.  The award recognizes the “top 100 business trailblazers” in corporations, government agencies, and nonprofits across North America and Europe.

As a biopharmaceutical patent attorney, Dr. Lavoie brings a unique blend of scientific and legal expertise to the business and regulatory challenges her clients face.  She represents a range of clients, from industry to academia, with an emphasis on early to mid-stage companies.  Her practice focuses on client counseling and strategic portfolio development, patent opinions, due diligence and freedom-to-operate studies, patent prosecution, and the regulatory process.  She has extensive experience in the areas of pharmaceuticals (including life cycle management), drug formulation and drug delivery technologies, biopharmaceuticals, small molecules, nanotechnologies, plant biotechnology and genomics, and green/environmental chemistries.  She also has significant transactional experience in licensing, feasibility, and development and supply agreements.

Outside of the office, Dr. Lavoie is an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota, where she teaches a biotech patent law course.  In 2006, she started a nonprofit, “The Give to Remember Foundation” that gives grants to caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients who can’t afford to hire help.

Dr. Lavoie received her J.D., magna cum laude, Order of the Coif, from the University of Minnesota Law School in 2002, her Ph.D. (1996) and M.A. (1993) in chemistry from Princeton University, and her B.S., summa cum laude, in chemistry from Providence College in 1989.
