Boston, MA, April 21, 2014 – Fish & Richardson announced today that it has developed a mobile app that focuses on post-grant proceedings, one of the fastest-growing areas of patent law.  Fish’s Post-Grant app, which can be downloaded for free, is available for both iPhone® and AndroidTM devices.

The app provides a comprehensive range of resources for practitioners, including:Download Fish's App for Post-Grant Practitioners

  • Descriptions of each proceeding, including timelines, webinars, and related articles.
  • Up-to-date listing of all district court stays relating to inter partes review (IPR) proceedings, including a downloadable court order for each.  Fish is the first and only firm to provide this information in this form.
  • News alerts focused on post-grant proceedings, including case and/or decision summaries, resources of note, information from the USPTO, and external commentary.
  • Archives of monthly post-grant webinars focusing on niche post-grant topics of interest.

“Post-grant work requires a potent combination of technical know-how, patent prosecution skills, and litigation savvy,” said Karl Renner and Dorothy Whelan, principals and co-chairs of the Post-Grant Practice Group.  “We hope practitioners will find our app to be a helpful tool in navigating this new and rapidly evolving terrain.”

Fish is currently one of the most active firms in post-grant proceedings, representing clients across a wide range of industries as petitioner and patent owner.  Post-grant proceedings are  mechanisms for challenging the validity of patent claims before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), rather than the more expensive and time-consuming route of challenging a patent’s validity in federal district court.  Post-grant proceedings include the new inter partes review, covered business method review, and post-grant review processes that were introduced by the America Invents Act.
