Principal Tom Melsheimer was featured in the Law360 article titled, “5 Things You Should Never Do For A Client,” discussing the lawyer-client relationship and ways to appropriately meet client demands.

Jess Davis of Law360 writes: “‘Lawyers who take on the personality of difficult or abrasive clients have only themselves to blame,’ Tom Melsheimer of Fish & Richardson PC said.

Melsheimer said while clients certainly should direct important decision making in a case, they should never control the lawyer’s decision to treat opposing counsel with respect, generally accept requests to make scheduling accommodations, and avoid invective and insults in characterizing the other side before a judge.

‘Generally those decisions should be informed by your own legal ethics and professionalism, not by any particular desire or goal of your client,’ Melsheimer said.”
