Largest patent case ever to go to verdict.

Fish & Richardson convinced the trial judge in Microsoft v. Alcatel Lucent, the largest patent case ever to go verdict, to set aside a $1.5 billion verdict and enter judgment of non infringement as a matter of law on two patents alleged by Alcatel Lucent to cover MP3 digital music technology. The firm also convinced the trial judge to rule that Alcatel Lucent had failed in all respects to present a legally sound theory of damages.

John Gartman, a principal in the San Diego office, was lead counsel on the case, which included a large team from across the firm’s national litigation group.
