Boston, MA, October 27, 2010 – Heidi E. Harvey, Of Counsel at Fish & Richardson, has been selected by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly as a “Top Woman of Law” for 2010 for her outstanding leadership, vision, passion, and advocacy in the area of pro bono work. Ms. Harvey will be honored at a reception at the Westin Copley in Boston on December 3, 2010.

Ms. Harvey was selected as a “Top Woman of Law” for her vision and leadership in establishing a formal pro bono program at Fish. The driving force behind growing the program from its inception, Ms. Harvey took on the first pro bono case in the history of the firm in 1992. Since then, the firm’s pro bono work has expanded. Lawrence Kolodney, a Boston principal who took over as chair of the firm’s Pro Bono committee in 2006, now oversees a program that includes a wide range of matters including representation of people facing eviction or foreclosure, refugees fleeing brutal governments, artists and musicians needing to protect their creations, prisoners claiming mistreatment in jail, and groundbreaking civil rights issues.

In 2009, Ms. Harvey received the Robert B. Fraser Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award for outstanding service from Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. Fish was also awarded the 2009 Access to Justice Pro Bono Law Firm award by the Massachusetts Bar Association in recognition of the firm’s participation in the Northeast Housing Court’s Lawyer for a Day program.

“We are very proud of Heidi and the vital role she has played in making pro bono a valued part of the culture at Fish,” said Timothy French, Managing Principal of Fish & Richardson’s Boston office. “This award is a well-deserved acknowledgment of her tireless legal advocacy on behalf of those in need.”

In her intellectual property (IP) practice at Fish, Ms. Harvey is an experienced IP trial lawyer and counselor on a wide range of technologies including optics, imaging, fluorescence interference, chemical vapor deposition, infrared radiation detection, and medical and mechanical devices.

Ms. Harvey is a frequent faculty member on litigation and IP topics, including for the National Institutes of Trial Advocacy, Suffolk University’s Center for Advanced Legal Studies, Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, and America Intellectual Property Law Association. She has been named a Massachusetts Super Lawyer numerous times.

Ms. Harvey received her J.D. from Cornell Law School in 1986 and her B.S. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1982.
