Fish & Richardson Awarded "Milestone Case of the Year" at Managing Intellectual Property's North America Awards 2016

Fish & Richardson announced that it has received the "Milestone Case of the Year" award from Managing Intellectual Property (MIP) for the firm's work on behalf of clients Microsoft, Adobe, and Citrix in Williamson v. Citrix Online LLC et al. (Fed. Cir. June 16, 2015). Fish was recognized for prevailing on the Federal Circuit, sitting en banc, to overrule longstanding precedent regarding the construction and application of functional claim language. The decision opens up new avenues for defending against allegations of infringement on both infringement and validity grounds.

The Fish litigation team included principals Frank Scherkenbach, Kurt Glitzenstein, Indranil Mukerji, and Jonathan Lamberson. Mukerji and Lamberson attended the ninth annual MIP North America awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on March 17, 2016 and accepted the award on behalf of the firm.

In addition to the "Milestone Case of the Year" award, MIP named Fish to the shortlist for awards in the following categories: ITC; Patent Litigation; Patent Prosecution; Patent Trial & Appeal Board; Specialty IP Firm; Patent Litigation Northeast; Patent Litigation South; Patent Litigation West; Patent Prosecution Northeast; and Patent Prosecution West. Fish Principals Doug McCann, Ahmed Davis, Frank Scherkenbach, Jon Singer, and Wasif Qureshi were on the shortlist for outstanding litigators.

Founded in 1990, MIP is an international magazine for in-house IP counsel and a leading source of news and analysis on all IP developments worldwide. MIP's North America Awards are the result of more than six months of analysis by its team of researchers, who conduct hundreds of interviews with IP practitioners and IP owners in North America.
