Fish & Richardson announces the addition of legendary Texas attorney John W. Bickel II of Dallas as part of its expansion in commercial litigation and arbitration services for clients in the U.S. and internationally. One of the state’s highest-profile attorneys, he joined Fish on Sept. 22.

Mr. Bickel, co-founder of one of Dallas’ first and most-prominent litigation boutiques, has earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues, clients and adversaries in a career spanning more than 30 years. His track record includes work in practically every type of commercial legal case, from contract disputes to Lanham Act litigation to trade secret claims and many others. Mr. Bickel’s peers have named him as one of the state’s Top 100 lawyers in the annual Texas Super Lawyers list published in Texas Monthly.

Mr. Bickel will work closely with Thomas M. Melsheimer, managing principal of Fish’s Dallas office, and fellow principal Steven H. Stodghill.

“Very few law firms in the entire country can honestly claim the ability to handle a billion-dollar, bet-the-company case, but Fish now has two attorneys in Dallas who can do so in John and Tom,” says Mr. Stodghill.

In addition to representing clients in state and federal courtrooms throughout the U.S., Mr. Bickel also represents companies and individuals in substantial arbitration proceedings. He will pursue his role as an arbitrator in matters heard in the U.S. and in the world’s largest arbitration centers.

“I am beyond happy to be joining two of the bar’s finest in Tom and Steve and the smart, hard-working team of lawyers and professionals at Fish & Richardson,” says Mr. Bickel. “My goal is to build upon the extraordinary work Fish has been doing for many years by continuing to represent clients in all types of complex commercial litigation matters and significant arbitrations.”

Mr. Bickel is a fellow of the American and Texas Bar Foundations and Life Fellow of the Dallas Bar Association. He is a former U.S. Army captain and West Point graduate who received his jump wings and served in the Infantry for three years prior to attending law school. Mr. Bickel earned his law degree from Southern Methodist University’s Dedman School of Law. After law school, Mr. Bickel served in the Army’s Judge Advocate General’s Corps as a Chief Trial Attorney.
