As an example of some of the great efforts our attorneys and staff have made in promoting diversity in the legal profession – and joining in these efforts with our clients – here’s a great success story from Twin Cities office:

For the past several months, the Twin Cities office assisted in the Minnesota Hispanic Bar Association’s bid for the 2010 Hispanic National Bar Association Annual Convention. The HNBA Annual Convention takes place in the fall each year, bringing thousands of Hispanic attorneys and leaders from across the U.S. and other countries. 2010 will mark the 35th Annual Convention. Culminating in a victory this past Thursday, Twin Cities was represented during a bid to the HNBA’s Board of Governors in New York City.

Fish’s support for this effort came in various forms. Mark Ellinger was the first managing partner in Minnesota to send a letter of support to the MHBA in January. His letter was enclosed in the Minnesota bid and mentioned prominently in the presentation. Since November, associate Krista Krahn has been a member of the bid team led by Peter Reyes, HNBA Region XI president and Senior Intellectual Property Attorney for Cargill, Inc. Along with other MHBA members, Krista created the presentation and worked on dozens of bid drafts, spending over 50 hours to research and develop the final written product. During this process, Krista worked with Sara Ramos of the Marketing Dept., who answered many marketing and Minnesota-related questions.

The bids themselves were printed by our Twin Cities’ office and then sent to the New York office, where associate Jorge Torres assisted Krista in preparing for the bid presentation. Krista presented the bid with five other Minnesota-based attorneys, describing her role as the Logistics Chair and answering Board questions regarding Minnesota. It goes without saying that after those efforts, the Minnesota Hispanic Bar Association won the 2010 convention.

Congratulations to the Twin Cities office and especially Krista, Mark, Sara, Jorge and everyone else who assisted in this process. This was and will be a great opportunity for the TC office to show off its commitment to diversity in the legal profession.
