​John W. Bickel II joined Fish as a member of the litigation practice group where he focuses on commercial litigation and arbitration services for clients in the US and internationally.

Mr. Bickel co-founded one of Dallas’ first and most prominent litigation boutiques, and has earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues, clients and adversaries during a career spanning more than 30 years. His track record includes successfully representing clients in virtually every type of commercial legal matter, from contractual disputes to Lanham Act litigation to trade secret claims, including legal disputes and disciplines involving intellectual property, contracts, business torts, hospitality, antitrust and trade regulation, securities, commercial real estate, insurance, corporations, partnerships, property, oil and gas, trusts, e-commerce and white collar crime in courts throughout the United States and around the world.

Mr. Bickel has been a frequent writer on issues relating to trial by jury and the arbitration of commercial disputes. He is also a renowned public speaker, and is involved in various charitable foundations.

Outside of practicing law, Mr. Bickel has been a member of the Executive Committee of Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, and has served terms as a trustee of the West Point Association of Graduates. He is a fellow of both the American Bar Foundation and the Texas Bar Foundation, a sustaining life fellow in the Dallas Bar Foundation, a member of the Citizens for a Qualified Judiciary, and an alumni member of the former Markey-Wigmore Chapter of the Inns of Court.

Mr. Bickel received his Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. After graduation, he received infantry and parachute training, and then served a three-year assignment as an infantry officer in a Ranger battalion of the United States Army, which included a tour in West Germany as an aide-de-camp for Lieutenant General Charles J. Simmons. Mr. Bickel received his Juris Doctor degree from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. While in law school, Mr. Bickel was president of the Student Bar Association, a chief justice for the Moot Court Board, and was elected to the Barristers, a scholastic honor society. Upon graduating from law school, Mr. Bickel served as a Chief Trial Attorney in the United States Army with the Judge Advocate General’s Corps.

In 1986 Mr. Bickel first received an AV rating from the legal rating service, Martindale-Hubbell, and has maintained that rating ever since. In addition, recently Martindale-Hubbell changed its highest rating designation to AV Preeminent, one which Mr. Bickel received when it was first awarded and has maintained ever since. Mr. Bickel has been voted by his peers a Super Lawyer since the designation was first awarded and has been voted a Top 100 lawyer in Texas by his peers as published in Texas Monthly. In 2015, Mr. Bickel was also selected for D Magazine‘s "Best Lawyers in Dallas" list and ranked as a leading lawyer by Chambers USA 2015

Including cases he tried when he was a Judge Advocate General, Mr. Bickel has tried to verdict over 160 jury trials, and is consistently recognized as one of the top lawyers in litigation involving the resolution of business disputes.
