Professional experience
Edwin Lavergne is a Principal in the Washington, D.C. office of Fish & Richardson. He provides business, regulatory, transactional, and litigation advice to clients concerning privacy and data security; federal stimulus grant programs; wireless telecommunications services; spectrum leasing; gambling, lottery and sweepstakes laws; and telemarketing, advertising, and promotion laws. His clients include hotel and gaming companies; telecommunications and wireless security equipment manufacturers; public and private schools, colleges, and universities; and Catholic archdioceses and dioceses.

Practice overview
Internet, telephony, and telemarketing
Negotiates telecommunications service agreements, telephone and Internet service agreements, and telemarketing sales agreements. Provides regulatory advice and counsel concerning data security and privacy, telemarketing, wireless services, and related matters.

Instructional television, educational technology, and wireless communications
Negotiates spectrum lease agreements and advises clients on regulatory and business matters concerning Educational Broadband Service and other wireless spectrum, including related legal and policy matters.

Advertising, promotion, and marketing
Structures games, contests, and sweepstakes to comply with federal and state lottery, gambling and disclosure laws. Advises clients on required disclosures, privacy, advertising, and related matters.

Publications and appearances
Authored "New State Laws Create Challenges for Retailers in Safeguarding Customer Data," published by Retailing Today (2009).

Authored "FCC Gives Teeth to the CAN-SPAM Act," published by the New York University Journal of Law and Business (2005).

Co-authored the law and policy chapter in Net Success published by Adams Media Corporation (1999). With a foreword by AOL's Steve Case, Net Success explores the Internet's influence on consumers and considers how business leaders should approach the Internet.

Co-authored The Interactive Marketplace Regulatory Handbook published by Thompson Publishing Group - a comprehensive guide to federal and state laws governing telemarketing, infomercials, home shopping, online services, and related interactive media issues (1995).

Has appeared on Good Morning America, and has been quoted in numerous publications, including The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post.

Has written more than 60 articles on issues concerning telephone and Internet services, which have appeared in The Multimedia Law Report, InfoText, Phone Plus, and Voice Processing magazines.
