Background

​Brian J. Gustafson is a Principal in the Silicon Valley of Fish & Richardson. His practice emphasizes patent prosecution in computer related technologies including search engines, cloud computing, virtual machines, machine learning, statistical machine translation, distributed architectures and processes, data classifiers, image rendering and analysis, mobile applications, location based services, voice recognition, web advertising, and social networks.​

Mr. Gustafson has previous legal experience as an Associate with Fish & Richardson. He also worked as a Research Assistant for Professor Lawrence Lessig, Stanford Law School, assisting with his book "The Future of Ideas: The Fate of the Commons in a Connected World" (2001).

Mr. Gustafson has significant technical experience as a Research Assistant with the Linfield College Physics Department/Linfield Research Institute (1996-1998, 1999) and as a Research Fellow for Michigan State University Physics and Chemistry Departments (1998), which formed the basis of his senior honors thesis entitled "Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Determination of Protein Orientation."  He also worked as a Teaching Assistant for the Linfield College Physics Department (1998-2000).
