Lisa Martens, a principal in Fish & Richardson’s Southern California office, has been named one of San Diego’s Women Who Mean Business by the San Diego Business Journal. The award honors the achievements and contributions of women business
leaders and role models to the community and their companies.
Lisa was recognized for building from the ground up the firm’s west coast trademark and copyright practice. Her support of women in business, including her service as a board member of Athena, a San Diego-based nonprofit organization that supports women in science and technology, was also acknowledged.
The judges also noted Lisa’s commitment to pro bono work, including her dedication to helping entrepreneurs establish new businesses. She currently represents five pro bono clients – Promises 2 Kids, which supports foster children and victims of child abuse; the Cardiovascular Disease Foundation; Kids vs. Global Warming; The Dreyfuss Initiative, which was founded by actor Richard Dreyfuss to promote civics curriculum in U.S. schools; and City of San Diego in association with its centennial celebration of the famous Balboa Park.
Lisa joined Fish in 2002 and has built an extensive practice that emphasizes trademark prosecution and litigation for the food service, health care, biotechnology, computer, Internet and retail clothing industries. She has significant experience in managing U.S. and foreign trademark portfolios for large international companies. Her internet work includes handling domain name disputes and securing domain names in the U.S. and worldwide, as well as providing advice on legal requirements for conducting online sweepstakes and promotions. Lisa’s practice also includes licensing intellectual property and litigation relating to trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and false comparative advertising.
A magna cum laude graduate of Cornell College, Lisa earned her law degree from DePaul University College of Law where she was Order of the Coif.
