Fish & Richardson's verdict for integrated circuits firm Power Integrations Inc., in its patent-infringement suit against rival Fairchild Semiconductor International, was ranked in the "Top 100 Verdicts of 2006," as reported by American Lawyer Media's Verdict Search. The District of Delaware-rendered verdict came in at number 51.
At issue in the suit were four Power Integrations, Inc. patents relating to circuits and high voltage transistor structures asserted against various Fairchild chips used in power conversion applications, parts found in such end products as cell phone chargers, DVD players, LCD monitors, and others. After the trial, the jury found all four patents willfully infringed and awarded Power Integrations $34 million in damages.
The Power Integrations' trial team was lead by Frank Scherkenbach and Howard Pollack, principals of Fish & Richardson. Fairchild Semiconductor was represented by G. Hopkins Guy, from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP.
The October 2006 verdict was the latest in a series of trials that Fish & Richardson has won for Power Integrations since taking on its first case for the company, Power Integrations, Inc. v. Motorola, Inc., in 1997.
